The Sacred Sound: How Music Helps Us Connect with Spirit

There’s something truly magical about music. It’s more than just sound—it’s vibration, emotion, frequency and energy all wrapped into one. Music has this incredible way of stirring our souls, bringing people together, unlocking memories, and helping us feel deeply. And in my work as an energy healer, I’ve come to know just how powerful music is in connecting not only with our own higher self, but with Spirit.
Music is one of the most direct ways Spirit communicates with us. During readings, I’ll often receive a message from Spirit in the form of a song lyric. Sometimes it’s a single line that holds powerful meaning for the sitter—something they need to hear in that moment. Other times, a full song will come through clairaudiently (which means I hear it intuitively, not physically). When that happens, it’s often a song the sitter recognizes as a favourite of their loved one in Spirit. It’s Spirit’s way of saying, "I’m here. I remember. And I want you to know it’s really me."
One of the most beautiful things about this connection through music is how specific and emotional it can be. For me personally, music has always been a clear channel to Spirit—especially when it comes to my mom.
One of my favourite memories of this kind of connection happened on my wedding day. After my husband and I had our first dance, and the wedding party joined us for theirs, the first song the DJ played was a Rolling Stones song: Brown Sugar. My heart nearly burst. That song was one of my mother’s favourites, (she was a huge Stones fan) and I have always associated it with her. It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t on the playlist. And yet, in that moment, there it was.
As soon as it began to play, my whole family—my mom’s siblings included—got up and started dancing together. It felt like a spontaneous celebration. Later, when I asked if anyone had requested that song, every single person said no. The DJ had just chosen it randomly. But I knew in my heart it wasn’t random at all. It was my mom. She was there, with all of us, celebrating, dancing, and showing her love in the most joyful way.
To this day, when I hear that song, I feel her with me. It’s a beautiful reminder that our loved ones never really leave us—they just speak in new ways. Music is one of the clearest channels they use, and when we open our hearts to it, the messages come through.
So if you ever feel a sudden pull toward a certain song, or hear a lyric that hits differently—pause. Listen. Spirit might just be speaking to you.
